Wisdom Is Better Than Wealth

“How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.” — Proverbs 16:16 NKJV

Many young people in this generation strongly desire to get rich and famous. Now, none of these two desires is wrong in themselves. But the sad thing is that such desires usually get conceived and persist because of selfish ambitions. Meanwhile, the Bible says in Philippians 4:2 (NKJV) that,

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

God isn’t against money but the love of money. He wants us to know the purpose of money and how to handle and use it well unto His glory, not for us to pride ourselves in them.

The super-wise preacher, Solomon, with all that he had, said indirectly in Proverbs 16:16 that wisdom is better than wealth. Why?—Because he knew that even if you’re wealthy, yet you lack knowledge about the purpose of money and how to steward it effectively, you’ll eventually lose your possessions or won’t accomplish much with them, whether few or many.

Why is it written in Proverbs 10:2 (AMP) that “an ill-gotten gain does not profit…”? Because using dubious means to get wealth doesn’t eliminate your ignorance to manage it. That’s why he who chases after money never gets satisfied, no matter how much he earns.

God isn’t against money but the love of money.

Eternal life doesn’t consist of an abundance of possessions; it entails knowing God and Jesus the sent One (John 17:3).
When you understand God’s ways of handling and using wealth, even if you have a little, you’ll eventually have much in your coffers without struggle.

Do you have financial struggles? Stop blaming the economy of your country? Instead, check how you use the finances you receive? Don’t be in a hurry. Pause going about your busy schedules for a few hours and analyse your financial life from the lens of God’s Word. Then you’ll see how well or messy you’re stewarding God’s money. Well, I’m not saying this to condemn you but to help you get convicted about areas you must allow God’s Word to transform in your life.

Not everything you want is a need. Walk in wisdom, and stop spending money on unnecessary things.

Remember again that wisdom is better than wealth. So study what the Bible says about money, and get financial counsel from Christian financial experts, particularly through their books. May God help you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me analyse my financial life well based on the standards of Your Word. Give me the wisdom to be a wise and faithful overseer of everything You have blessed me with, especially my finances. Amen!
