Why You Should Put Away Lying

“Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.” — Ephesians 4:25 NKJV

Have you ever felt something lingering on your hand only to see nothing there upon checks? Probably the organism that was doing that was so small to be seen by your eye. So you just scratched your skin and let that pain go away. Do you know the mystery behind this happening? Your body cannot lie to you.

God made your body to function as a complete system. And by that functionality, everything in it is supposed to work together for your good. That’s why when one body part gets affected by a disease, others also suffer from it.

God loves variety, but He endorses unity, not uniformity.

Now with this concept in mind, let’s see how Jesus made His Church like a body. He’s the head, and all believers around this Earth constitute the body. So Jesus relays information to several people, and they also collaborate with others to make Jesus’ purposes actualised on Earth.

Now Paul says in Ephesians 4:25 that we must put away lying. But why? Because we’re members of one Body – the Church. So here’s the analogy. If you lie to a fellow believer in Christ, you’re causing jeopardy in the body of Christ, and others will be affected. And even though this knowledge is clear in scripture, people still lie and backbite one another, even in the church, which is very pathetic. Why? I think it’s because many haven’t sat down to study the Word.

Let me tell you something. God loves variety, but He endorses unity, not uniformity. Your area of service in Christ’s body may be different from others. However, it doesn’t mean you should lie to anyone for selfish gains. When you do that, it doesn’t glorify God; it is destructive to Jesus’ vision of seeing oneness in God’s children no matter their location, and also speaks evil of you.

A lie may be subtle and even unrecognisable by the affected. But again, remember that even hidden things spoken in closets will be heard in broad daylight (Luke 12:3). The results of selfishness are shame and destruction. So put on selflessness – oh, Christian!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Oh God, help me to bear the consciousness that I’m part of the Body of Christ. Help me deal with one another in Truth, so Your name will be glorified in all endeavours of my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
