Whoever follows Jesus Won’t Walk In Darkness

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” — John 8:12 NKJV

What is darkness? It simply means the absence of light. And according to scripture, there are two kinds of darkness:

Physical darkness caused by the absence of physical light.
Spiritual darkness caused by the lack of eternal life through Jesus.

Before Jesus came into the world, the sun was already providing light during the daytime. So when Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world,” He wasn’t talking about replacing the sun. He was speaking about giving the lost, spiritual insight that’ll bring them back to live unto God, and the initial door to this process is salvation.

So in John 8:12, Jesus continued to say that whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness but have the light of (eternal) life. In other words, after getting saved, committing to following Jesus will put you into a realm of receiving consistent revelation that will direct your life according to God’s patterns.

The question is, “Are you following Jesus?” Yes, you may be born again. But there are several Christians whose lives are still miserable after accepting Jesus. That’s why I want you to reiterate this question to yourself one more time: “Am I following Jesus?”

God marked out a race of faith for you before you came into Christ. So in Christ, it’s not just about receiving salvation. It’s about following Him daily, allowing Him to guide you every step. That is godly submission.

If Jesus is the groom, and the church is the bride, then submitting to Him and His Word is just like a wife submitting to her husband. You have to learn it, including the times you must trust Him when you don’t understand His ways. Follow Jesus, and you’ll not walk in darkness.

Father, I repent of any rebellion I have involved myself in. I decide to follow You all the days of my life, trusting You for your excellent leadership in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
