Where Is Your Trust — In God or Your Possessions?

“For I will not trust in my bow, Nor shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our enemies, And have put to shame those who hated us. In God we boast all day long and praise Your name forever. Selah” — Psalms 44:6 - 8 NKJV

David was a skilled warrior. He knew how to use the warrior’s armour so well that he even had multiple successes in the battles he fought with his men. But David never trusted his skill and intellect. He trusted in God because he knew God was the source of all his victories. Today I ask you, where is your trust?

Do you trust the knowledge you’ve acquired from school and books so much that you are now neglecting God’s wisdom? Are you anchoring your faith on man’s words at the expense of God’s Word? The Bible says in Psalm 20:7 that,

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Psalms 20:7 NIV

So some people trust in what they have instead of what the name of Jesus can do for them. Your possessions, both material and immaterial, can become a god to you when you decide to exalt them above the God who gave them to you. Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that you have what you have today because you received it. No gift in Christ is for sale. Instead, it’s to help you accomplish your divine mandate and also to help others.

God isn’t short of strategies and knowledge. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). So it’s better to trust the God who can give you infinite wisdom for the betterment of what you have than to trust in your current position. One thing is sure. And that is, when you put your trust in God over what you do, He’ll bring the increase.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, I renounce any little trust I’ve placed in what I can do and what I know. Even though it’s good to be skilful and knowledgeable, help me always to remember that You gave me what I have and know now; so that I don’t abuse it for any selfish reason. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
