Walk in the Way of Love

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” — Ephesians 5:1 - 2 NIV

Love is beautiful. But the world has painted a wrong picture of it to mean sex and inordinate affection. Meanwhile, it’s written that God is love (see 1 John 4:8). Therefore, to walk in the way of love as a child of God means to walk in the path of God.

How did God demonstrate His love towards us? By sending Jesus Christ to the world to come and take away the sin of the world (see 1 John 1:29). That means, to walk in love as God did, you must walk in sacrifice for the benefit of others.

You can give to others without loving them (just to fulfil responsibility). But you cannot love without giving sacrificially to the one you love.

Jesus loved us. That’s why He gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God so that all our sins will get purged. Today, He still loves the church and has given Himself for her purification (see Titus 2:14). That is why no matter how bad things are going on today in the body of Christ, Jesus has still not stopped demonstrating love to people.

As a child of God, you should be aware that people won’t live up to your expectations every time. Your spouse will never be perfect. And God made it that way so as to allow you to grow in love until it’s perfected in you.

Give to those who don’t deserve it, even those who stab you in the back for your good deeds. But as you do this, never forget that it’s God’s love you’re exemplifying; so that when the hurts and disappointments come, you’ll not turn back on them.

Father, thank You for teaching me to walk in the way of love. I receive divine enablement to live as Christ did, regardless of what I get in return from people for my labour. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
