Vengeance Is God’s Work, Not Yours

“[19] Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” — Romans 12:19 NIV

Have you been wronged significantly recently? Or maybe someone did something evil to you that keeps popping up in your mind periodically. Don’t be surprised; you’re not alone. It happens to many people daily. However, the one with the Word of God in such a situation will know how to counter it.

In Romans 12:9, it’s written that vengeance is God’s work, not yours. In other words, instead of making plans to repay evil for the evil things your companion did to you moments, days or times ago, leave room for God’s wrath to deal with him.

Maybe, your boss has been speaking harshly against you for a while. And yet, he’s still getting a promotion at work. Don’t worry. Promotion doesn’t change anyone; it only reveals people’s true character because of the availability of power.

God knows how to vindicate you despite all the atrocities committed against you. You don’t need to fight evil people back physically. Submit your case to the Lord in prayer. And watch God work in your life.

In all these things, I want you to remember always that you’re an ambassador of Christ. Therefore, glorify God in your body, whether people repay your work with evil or good.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for stating in Your Word that vengeance is Your work. I pray in the name of Jesus, vindicate me against all flaws and terrible things done against me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
