Understand Who You Are in Christ

[12] “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.” — Romans 6:12 NKJV

Jesus came to seek and to save all that which was lost (Luke 19:10). That included the sinful flesh of all humans. So today, if you’re a believer in Christ, your flesh has been crucified (see Galatians 5:24). You have authority over sin. But there’s a caution. And that is, the effect of this victory will remain inherent in you without complete manifestation in your life if you don’t understand who you are in Christ.

For instance, a child of a king is a prince from day one of his birth. But until he has grown to understand his full authority in life, he’ll continue misbehaving and doing all kinds of nasty things, unconscious of the verity that he’s a prince. That’s the exact thing happening to several believers of today.

Christ has saved them. But they don’t understand who they are in the Lord, so they keep behaving like worldly people. All these happenings are a resultant effect of the lack of consistent spiritual growth, and it’s very tragic.

The quickest way to help people live godly lives in this generation is by discipling them in the ways of the Lord. That’s why before Paul wrote, “… do not let sin reign in your mortal body…” in Romans 6:12, he emphasised believers knowing that they are dead to sin (see Romans 6:11).

Beloved, commit to studying the Word of God. In the long run, you’ll understand who you are in Christ better and better each day. And as you grow spiritually, you’ll excel in good works, which God created you to walk in.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to know You more each day. Build structures in my life to make me submissive to Your training and spiritual transformative process. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
