Tribulation Works Patience In You

[3] “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;” — Romans 5:3 KJV

I remember some years ago when I was searching for available tertiary institutions for my university course. There were so many options that I got overwhelmed with pressure from my friends and parents. But after a while of just turning everything aside to think and pray about it, I was patient enough to choose two out of them, and I’ve benefited from that decision to date.

It was later I took a critical look at Romans 5:3 and saw that tribulation works patience in the children of God. Wow! So back then, I didn’t know God used that pressure to calm me down. But now I know.

Many times, the best decisions aren’t made when there’s pressure mounted on you. Some people can work very well under pressure, and that’s a good skill. But when it comes to decisions, making them with a troubled and pressured heart usually doesn’t help.

Paul says in Romans 5:3 that we, children of God, glory in tribulations because of the patience it works in us. Nobody wants to go through a series of life troubles. But according to Jesus in John 16:33, it’s impossible to live in this world without facing tribulations – no matter how much money you have, or possessions you own. But beyond the troubles, the work of Christ in you to build patience is more glorious.

Have you been declined by several people – be it employers, marriage proposals, or admissions? Don’t give up. Allow it to work patience in your heart as your mind stays on the Lord because God has never left nor forsaken you. You are accepted in the beloved (Ephesians 1:6).

Remember that faith and patience work together. If you have faith that God will do what He said, pray and be patient unto Him to fulfil the vision. It’ll take time, but it’ll get accomplished. Fret not!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making me know in Your Word that tribulation works patience in me. No matter what troubles I’ve faced, teach me to make my mind stand firm on Your Word. I refuse to be bothered by the issues of life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
