The Message Of The Cross Is Foolishness To Those Who Are Perishing

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” — 1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV

Have you met some people on the mission field who despise the people who preach the gospel of Jesus Christ? I do. In fact, I’ve seen it many times. The same gospel that has the power to convict a person and transform his life altogether is regarded as foolishness by an unbeliever. It’s like looking at a valuable thing but failing to see its value.

We live in a world the devil has blinded many people’s eyes to see the beauty of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 4:4). So we see people wallowing in sin with pleasure, forgetting that hell awaits them both on earth (later consequences of their actions) and eternity if they don’t repent.

To the unbeliever stumbling across this message, I want to tell you that Jesus is not a theory and believing in Him isn’t a mirage. He’s real and the only way to the Father (John 14:6). You better accept Him as Lord and personal Saviour today because tomorrow might be too late.

However, to the preacher reading this, understand that just because the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing doesn’t mean you should stop doing God’s work. Not everyone will entirely understand the message of Christ you’re preaching. Some will despise it, and some will urge you to stop. But focus on your heavenly reward and keep pressing on in faith. The Lord God who commissioned you to do His work won’t leave you today nor tomorrow.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, help me to be consistent with the preaching of the Truth no matter the blindness of the people’s minds in this chaotic world. Amen!
