The Lust of The Flesh

“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.” — I John 2:16 NKJV

There are three things in the world that wage war against the manifestation of the children of God. They are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Each has a special meaning, but I’m only elaborating on the first one today.

Lust means a craving for something forbidden. It’s the corrupt form of God’s love. So in simple terms, the lust of the flesh comprises all human yearnings that aren’t in synchrony with the desires of God. For example, money is neither good nor evil. God desires all His children to be rich so that each person would fulfil his divine purpose without financial constraints. But the world has painted a different view of money to believers. The world says, chase after money to show others you’re not poor. And when a child of God lives by this evil worldly understanding, he has been influenced by the lust of the flesh, whether he knows it or not.

Watch your life closely. Check the motive behind everything you do, especially when it comes to jobs and ministry. Are you motivated by the desire to please God in all things or solely to have an abundance of possessions?

The Bible says, “… God weighs our motives” (Proverbs 16:2 NIV). So humans may not know why you do what you do, but God knows. Romans 6:11 (NLT) says,

“Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.”

Your flesh had been crucified when you came into Christ (Galatians 5:24). Demolish every thought that the devil suggests in your mind to use your body to do something evil while being conscious of glorifying God in all your doings.

Prayer

Father, I pray for divine strength not to succumb to the evil desires of the flesh that wage war in my mind through immoral suggestions from the devil. Saturate my mind with Your powerful Word in the name of Jesus. Amen!
