The Blessing of Restlessness

“His father Isaac answered him, “Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above. You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.” — Genesis 27:39-40 NIV

What is restlessness? It’s the ability to continue pressing on without rest. Rest is good. The Bible says those who’ve believed in Christ have entered into His rest (Hebrews 4:3.) However, restlessness can be good or bad based on its usage.

When it comes to not being able to sleep at night because of restlessness, then it’s harmful. But when it comes to going beyond the ordinary to distinguish yourself from the masses, being restless is good and even a blessing. Why? Because when you’re restless (deny yourself rest) until you finish vision-related tasks, you’ll progress very fast.

A lot of people busily making an impact in this world are workaholics. Unfortunately, the “follower” crowd doesn’t see it. That’s why it’s common to see young Christians desiring the anointing of the fathers of the faith in this generation yet failing to go beyond the normal in the ministry.

Jacob and Esau were the only two children of Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was a skilful hunter, but Jacob liked staying at home. Both loved to work. However, Jacob had a better attitude than his brother. Because his mother kept the prophecy upon his life, she helped Jacob secure the first male-born fatherly blessings.

When Esau cried out to his father to bless him, Isaac gave him strange prophecies. But at the end of Isaac’s speech, he said to Esau, “But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.”

Through these prophetic declarations, Esau got inspired to become restless and work so hard to throw off his brother’s rulership over his life. In the end, Esau had so many possessions that he had to separate himself from Jacob (Genesis 36:6-8).

Maybe there’s none in your family noted for global impact. If you’re in Christ, you are to set that standard. However, you can’t live like how others living below the extraordinary are living. Cut back your spending and excessive sleep periods to work and follow God’s vision upon your life. The blessing of restlessness, because of productive work will be released by God upon your life.

Remember that if you want to be different, you have to do something different.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, load me with kingdom-oriented tasks that will make me press hard in effective use of the immense potential deposited in me. Let the blessing of restlessness be released upon my life as I serve and live unto you.
