The Bedrock Of Your Faith

[17] “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. [18] Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. [19] If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.” — 1 Corinthians 15:17 - 19 NIV

When you dig deep into a piece of soil, you’ll reach a point where there’s a bedrock. That is where you can’t dig deeper. So many constructors lay the foundation starting from there. However, some only dig deeper if the planned building will be very tall.

Juxtaposing this scenario to what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:17, the bedrock of your faith in Christ is the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. In that, without believing in it, there’s no forgiveness of sins, hence no salvation.

Believing in the resurrection of Christ is so crucial that it’s the basis for accepting the Lord Jesus as Lord and personal Saviour. Romans 10:9 NIV (boldface mine) says,

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Do you see that? Believing that God is a miracle worker doesn’t guarantee you salvation. And it’s so for other abilities of God.

When you go out to preach the gospel and people question you as to whether God raised Jesus from the dead, stand fast and defend the gospel by the empowerment of the Spirit of grace. Because such people aren’t merely making arguments, they are being used by the devil to attack the bedrock of your faith. And the Word says in James 4:7 that “… Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Friend, you’re forgiven because the Jesus whom God raised back to life lives forever more. Hope in Him because He’ll not fail you.

Father, thank You for raising Jesus from the dead. As I’ve learnt in Your Word that the bedrock of my faith is the resurrection of Your Son, help me defend it in divine strength anytime I’m questioned. Amen!
