The Bait of Temptation

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.” — Galatians 6:1 NIV

Ever tried to gently restore a person caught red-handed in sin like lying, murder or fornication before? May yes; maybe not. But in such a case, there’s something profound to note. If you’re not strong in Spirit, you’ll become tempted to join the evildoer in his deeds.

The devil makes sin palatable to spiritually weak and blind people. That’s why an unbeliever can fornicate and still not see anything wrong with it. Why? Because their spirit is dormant. Hence, their consciousness of what’s evil has suffered corruption.

Now Paul says in Galatians 6:1 that you shouldn’t rush to restore someone caught in sin. No! Instead, you should check whether you live by the Spirit first. That is, inspect whether you’re following God’s patterns for everything in your life or not.

Don’t allow the devil to turn what’s dark into a seemingly light thing before you. Resist him.

Secondly, watch yourself, lest you become tempted by the devil. Why? Because the devil is skilful in painting a wrong picture of sin even to the believer. That is what I call “the bait of temptation.” And that explains why even though the fruit on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was harmful to eat, it became desirous to the woman after she gazed at it (Genesis 3:6).

Define your purpose for approaching people, and you’ll set up boundaries in your communication domain. If you understand you came to minister God’s Word to someone, preach and go away. Don’t allow the devil to turn what’s dark into a seemingly light thing before you. Resist him.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, help me define the purpose and boundaries for approaching people, especially those outside the faith. So that by spiritual understanding, I’ll not end up in realms you never planned for my life. Amen!
