That He (Jesus) Might Fill The Whole Universe

[9] (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? [10] He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)” — Ephesians 4:9 - 10 NIV

Ephesians 4:9-10 is a very powerful scripture in which the entire mission of Jesus is made clear.

Jesus, the one who descended to the lower parts of the Earth, is the same who ascended higher than all the heavens. So heaven itself, where Jesus currently is, is above all the universe we can see or explore in space. If not, then it’d not have been written that God has purposed Him to fill all things.

Take filling an empty bottle with water as an example. The water must be in a container outside the bottle; then poured into the bottle till it (the water) fills it to the brim. So for the scripture to say, “… that He (Jesus) might fill all things (the universe)” [Ephesians 4:10 paraphrased], then it means God’s plan is for Christ to find expression everywhere in the universe, not just the Earth alone. And when I talk about these things, it’s not just about building churches and organisations. No! It’s about people’s attitudes, marriages, families, systems (working and those yet to be built), environments, all the planetary bodies and everything else conforming to Christ.

But for this to be possible, especially on the Earth, God, the Father of spirits, needs men. Why? Because he has given this Earth to the children of men to rule and have dominion over (see Psalm 115:16). That is why you shouldn’t joke with church, the Word, like-minded believers marrying, raising children in godly fear, building strong organisations and businesses that operate by the principles of God’s Word, and prayer. All these things I mentioned, when established to their perfect state, will make Jesus known everywhere.

For it is written in Romans 8:20-21 NIV that,

[20] “For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope [21] that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.”

The world we live in isn’t in its perfect state as God wants it. There are so many unbelievers doing evil things, as well as many manipulations of the devil in homes, workplaces, governments and organisations. It’s we, the (mature) sons of God, who He had anointed, that should correct all these errors by living on purpose (see Romans 8:19).

Be ye thus conscious that God is on a mission to revolutionise everything in the universe to conform to Christ. And you are a part of His plan. Approach Him to discover your divine purpose and live it with great intentionality.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for painting the picture that Jesus’ entire mission is to fill the whole universe according to Ephesians 4:10. Today, help me to understand it precisely and in more detail as I align my life with this extraordinary eternal vision. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
