Stay Awake And Work

[13] “Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.” — Proverbs 20:13 NIV

In my first year in the university, I had a roommate who slept for very long every day and was slack in attending lectures as well as studying for exams. He still completed his programme and graduated successfully. But for sure, his potential inside him was underutilised because he didn’t place demands on it. That is the exact thing that happens in several lives, and they wonder why some things delay getting accomplished. See what the scripture says in Proverbs 20:13.

It says if you love sleep, you’ll grow poor. But if you stay awake (and work), you’ll have food to spare. In other words, those who love sleep prefer laziness over work, and because of that, they lose progression as they grow, no matter their age or what they’re involved in. But to those who give their time to work purposefully, they shall have an abundance of provisions that some will be available to spare.

If you want to see God’s abundance in your life, let grace empower you to work. You’re limited in your human strength to fulfil God’s call upon your life. So God is responsible for supplying the grace and anointing to go the extra mile, just as He gave it to Paul (1 Corinthians 15:9-10).

Friend, there’s no benefit in oversleeping. It has costly effects. So don’t love sleep. Stay awake and work purposefully. When it’s time for rest, rest; when it’s time to sleep, do so. Wake up when it’s time. Don’t be slack, but be up and doing. The Lord is your strength.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the immense supplication of grace to fulfil purpose. I pray that I’ll be empowered to go beyond the ordinary and fulfil many more achievements ordained for me to do, all by the workings of grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
