Stand Firm and Hold Fast to the Teachings of Christ

“[15] So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:15 NIV

Paul did so much missionary work before spending years in prison to write his epistles. He started the church in Thessaloniki. But he couldn’t keep being there. So, in order to get in touch with them, he wrote them two epistles. And, concluding the second one, he urged them to stand firm and hold fast to the teachings of Christ he passed on to them. But why?

It’s because we live in an evil age, even as they lived in it. They experienced much more persecution than we do today. So their stance in Christ was constantly under threat. Either they compromise their lifestyle to get accepted by society or stand firm in the gospel and face persecution.

Today, it hasn’t changed. Many people approach life with the thought, “Let’s leave the Bible aside.” They try to find solutions to problems with their limited mindset, which usually fails.

As a child of God, be conscious that you’re different. You must be strong in your mind about this truth, or else worldly people will try talking you out of the gospel you’ve received.

Note that it’s not everywhere fellow believers would be around you. Look at Joseph, the only Israelite in an idolatrous country like Egypt when he first arrived as a slave. He was still faithful to God until his family joined him twenty years later.

Stand firm in the Word, man of God. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Galatians 6:10). The Lord is your helper.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, grant me the tenacity to remain firm in Your Word despite the varied mindsets of people who don’t know You yet are around my life. Amen!
