Set Your Affection on Things Above

[2] “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” — Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

We live in a generation where many people think so much about earthly matters that they find it difficult to concentrate on God in His presence, even for thirty minutes. You go to church today, and many sleep during service. Earthly matters that are of no relevance to God’s kingdom have become the everyday primary conversations of people. What a tragedy! Nevertheless, in all these things, I want to ask you that, as a believer, what thoughts preoccupy your mind? Are they earthly things or heavenly things? If they are earthly, then you’re not living according to the revelation in Colossians 3:2. And you must check that.

God’s Word says, be determined to set your affection on things above. In other words, what should preoccupy your mind should be ministry-oriented things, not merely earthly things.

For example, any man can dream of building or buying a house for his family. But you, a child of God, should conceive and work on this dream for the purpose of providing a home full of God’s love and an avenue to raise a family in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

The central purpose of anything God entrusts to us isn’t for us to find fulfilment in them. No! They’re to help us concentrate on God’s mission of spreading His influence. Root yourself in Christ, and you’ll not live like an ordinary man.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, keep nourishing my mind with Your thoughts. Help me do things and channel resources into building your kingdom. This is my prayer today. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
