Save Money And Resources For Your Future

[48] “Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it.” — Genesis 41:48 NIV

One time, Pharaoh had two similar dreams he couldn’t understand. When Joseph, a prisoner by then, was called to him for an explanation, it got revealed that Egypt would have seven years of abundance followed by seven years of severe famine (see Genesis 41:25-36). Joseph got promoted into Pharaoh’s service and became the one in charge of food in Egypt.

While others were eating all the food they had without saving any, he was busily collecting the foods produced in those seven years of abundance and storing them in cities. And because the news concerning the incoming famine was only known in the palace, the general Egyptian citizens didn’t know. So it could be that they rained insults on Joseph as he gathered food for seven years if they saw no reason behind his actions as a newly promoted prime minister.

Nevertheless, this wise man didn’t give up. He lost count of the abundance but still continued saving for the future. In the fullness of time, he saved the whole land of Egypt, as well as other countries like Israel, from dying during the seven years of famine. What can we learn from this?

It’s wise to save money and resources for your future, whether you have little or much today. However, you’ll be determined to do it better with God’s help only when He reveals what’s ahead of you. That is why visionless people struggle with discipline. They have no plan for their future, so they spend everything they get today as if there’s no tomorrow.

If you’re reading this now and you’re suffering from a lack of direction in life, go to God in prayer for Him to show you your purpose. Then probe further in prayer to see how to prepare your life from today to get where God wants you to be.

There’s no accidentally great future. Things don’t just happen because some people are luckier than others. In Galatians 1:4, the Word says this is an evil age. So nothing good happens by automation. Go for wisdom from the Lord. So you can plan to save money and resources for your future today, regardless of where you are in life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, I receive divine wisdom and enablement to strategically save money and resources for my future starting from today. Assist me to handle every resource that gets into my hands well in order to direct it towards the fulfilment of my divine assignment. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
