Rejoice In Yourself Alone

“But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.” — Galatians 6:4 NKJV

I never understood the importance of the anchor scripture for today’s Word until I saw its raw application in my life when I considered how the Lord had empowered me to do so many things for His kingdom at age 22 (at the time of this writing).

Paul says each believer should examine one’s own work. Why? So he can check whether his kingdom service is having much impact or is haphazard. The reason why this is so important is that indirectly, it prepares us for us to stand before the judgement seat of Christ (Romans 14:10, 12).

God can discern your work better than you. So if you do it by the Spirit, you’ll be able to check it, locate where things aren’t going on well and fix them by service. But can’t we celebrate our wins? Scripture does not condemn it.

That’s why Paul says in the same verse, Galatians 6:4, that “… and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.” That’s awesome!

The accomplishments you’ve chalked in ministry are worth celebrating by you. If, at the end of the year, you have raised people in the Lord to serve Him and live by the dictates of God’s Word, thank God for such a success. But it doesn’t end there. Rejoice in yourself alone for that work because it’s worth it. It carries both eternal and earthly benefits. The eternal one will be made known to you on the judgement day of Christ. But for the earthly one, part of the benefits will be seen here on Earth (Matthew 19:29). However, part of its enjoyment depends on you.

Life isn’t all about work. There are times you’ve got to take pauses and enjoy yourself in the Lord. In that way, you’ll become refreshed to press on in your divine calling.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, help me examine my service in Your kingdom according to your light. Assist me to locate problems that need to be addressed. So that in the end, You’ll be pleased with what You told me to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
