Protect Your Relationship with Jesus

[21] “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” — 1 John 5:21 NKJV

What is idolatry? It’s worshipping anything else apart from God. And with whatever you worship, you give your allegiance to. Right? Gone are the days when people made graven images and placed them in their rooms and shrines to worship them. Today, idolatry has expanded to include anything in this world that drives people’s attention other than God. Jesus said in Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) that,

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)

Whatever or whoever claims your loyalty (allegiance) is your “god.” If you spend all your life looking for money, then money is your god. And whenever you serve any ‘god,’ you’ll never find inner fulfilment in life. Why? Because God didn’t create you to draw your fulfilment from anything earthly.

God didn’t create you to draw your fulfilment from anything earthly.

Take John’s last warning in 1 John 5:21 very seriously as a believer. Keep yourself from idols. Protect your relationship with Jesus from all forms of filth. For you are married to Him. And that means whatever you share with Him in secrecy must be guarded with all diligence. Truth is truth, and nothing can be done against it. Therefore, make God the number one priority in your life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your immense love for me. Help me anchor my divine identity in You, and never to substitute my relationship with You for anything worldly. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
