Pay Back Good for Evil

[21] “If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
[22] For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,
And the LORD will reward you.” – Proverbs 25:21-22 (NKJV)

I encountered Jesus when I was 16 years old. And by His grace, faithful ministers have contributed to my constantly developing spiritual stance as of now. Because of the kind of upbringing I received from great people, I was oblivious that there are evil people in this world. So until recently, I even found it hard to detect that someone’s speech carried lies in it. Later on, I realised that not everyone who smiles with you actually loves you. Some are your enemies.

However, for us Christians, God doesn’t want us to carry both good and evil thoughts in our minds. That is why He wants to build a world where believers will need nothing from the world to go about life’s activities. But since we live in an evil age (see Galatians 1:4) where some people we interact with daily are unbelievers, He doesn’t want us to be ignorant of their evil ways. And to add up, we should learn how to pay back good for evil deeds these people even do to us. Please read the devotional anchor scripture again, Proverbs 25:21-22.

Solomon says God will reward you if you feed your enemy. And to them, burning coals will be heated on their heads (minds). In other words, they’ll know inherently that despite their evil ways, you being good to them is a fruit of God’s goodness upon your life.

God has designed your life to be filled with His goodness. Continue walking in good works as His child, so much so that you’ll not have time to think of paying back evil deeds for what another person did to you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to pay back good for evil deeds done to me. Overflow my mind with Your goodness that it flows through my life to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
