Pay Attention to What Matters

“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.” - Proverbs 4:20 NKJV

Many things demand our attention daily. However, our choice to determine what to give our attention to is always available to us.

Many times, people who don’t choose what to give their attention to become unproductive or less productive in their lives. If you don’t know what you’ve decided to do or listen to, then anything can claim your attention because your hands and ears are prone to distractions.

When King Solomon wrote (much of) the Proverbs, there wasn’t any advancement in technology. Yet, what is in that book is still applicable to us today. He advised sons to listen to his words attentively. And that’s a picture of God’s desire for His children today.

God continues to speak to us individually, but only a few people give Him the utmost attention. That’s why many Christians complain of not hearing God. It’s not about God speaking to you, but whether you’re attentive in spirit to hear Him.

Incline your ear to the Word of God. Listen to the Word of God that able ministers of grace labour so hard to preach daily. Don’t be tagged (whether directly or indirectly) among the people who come to church or join Christian gatherings (whether in person or online) just to hear the Word and later forget. Apply what you learn.

It’s your inclination (listening), not just hearing, of the Word that will inspire you to act upon it. Let nothing distract you when you sit or connect to the ministration of the Word.

You’re a blessing.
