Out Of Your Belly Shall Flow Rivers of Living Water

“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” — John 7:38 KJV

Jesus said in John 7:38 that out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water if you believe on Him. Right? That’s true because Jesus never lies. But what do those words of Jesus mean in detail?

I would consider three phrases in that verse: “believeth on me,” “out of his belly,” and “rivers of living water.”

It’s one thing for Jesus to say, “believe in Me,” and another for Him to say, “believe on me.” Translated “on,” as in John 7:38, means “into.” So Jesus is saying that to enable multiple dimensions of grace to flow through you to your surroundings, you not only have to believe in Him but also “into” Him. That means that believe you’re not only saved but also His vision for Your life. In that way, He will direct your steps easier when you submit to Him in all your ways.

Translated “belly” in the scripture refers to the lower parts of the abdomen. Figuratively, it also means “heart.” I’m not surprised Jesus would have referred to both interpretations because they are linked. Out of the heart springs all the issues of life. Right (Proverbs 4:23)? And out of the belly comes the faeces of waste food; isn’t it? So if you believe on Jesus, there shall be a cleansing of the content of Your inner man. And that would affect your way of life on Earth. Awesome!

Lastly, considering the phrase “rivers of living water,” Jesus never singularized the word “river.” So for you, child of God, who believes on Jesus, out of your life will come multiple streams of impact to affect your world. That means you’re loaded with good works, my Jesus!

Father, thank You for assuring me through the words of Your Son that out of my belly shall flow rivers of living water when I believe on Jesus.
