Live as Children of Light

[8] “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light [10] and find out what pleases the Lord.” — Ephesians 5:8, 10 NIV

I was amazed when I read what God, through Paul, said about unbelievers in Ephesians 5:8. Such people are not just in darkness but are darkness. I wonder how bad their state of life is before the Lord.

On the contrary, believers in Christ are light in the Lord. That means we’re the source of God’s shining light in this evil world. That also means if people want to find “good” in this evil age, we’re those who’ll make it happen. That’s why there’s a charge on us in Ephesians 5:8 that we should live as children of light.

To live as a child of light, you’ve got to draw inspiration from the source of light — God. So in Ephesians 5:10, we’re told to find out what pleases the Lord. Why? So we can live it out by divine enablement.

Any human being can do good out of his own volition. However, it’s only in Christ you can walk in good works (see Ephesians 2:10). There’s too much negativity in this world to try living godly lives without being connected to God.

Friend, prioritise your relationship with God because it’s from it that you’ll receive divine strength to live a life pleasing unto Him. Be strengthened to press on towards fulfilling your divine purpose.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the immense love You’ve demonstrated in my life. I pray in the name of Jesus, help me discover what pleases you so that I, by grace, will manifest it in life. Amen!
