Let Someone Else Praise You

[2] “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.” – Proverbs 27:2 (NIV)

In my few years of life, I’ve met several people who boast to others about their belongings. They say, “I have this,” “I have that,” “I made that,” and such like statements. Anytime I encounter one of such people, I remember what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:7,

[7] “… who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?”

1 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV)

Everything we have was made by others. Your phone was manufactured in the brand’s factory. You just exchanged money for it to be yours. It’s the same for that car or house. You may think it’s your labour that brought you that hard-earned money. Okay, let God restrict you from breathing for just 10 minutes and see if you’ll not be dead.

I’ve realised that everything earthly is temporary. Something can happen and make me lose possessions, although God protects me. So, if earthly things are so unreliable, why should we put our trust in them?

Those who boast of themselves are those who think so much about what they have instead of putting their hope in God. Here is the warning God said through Paul to rich people.

[17] “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

1 Timothy 6:17 (NIV)

Praise God for whatever you have today. But never put your hope in those possessions. Let another man praise you for what you have or do, and not yourself. Be so focused on fulfilling your divine mandate that you’ll care less about your possessions. And the faithful God will never cease unleashing you to higher realms of glory.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to focus on You every day of my life. I cast all my care upon You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
