Let All Things Be Done Decently And In Order

“Let all things be done decently and in order.” — I Corinthians 14:40 NKJV

When I was new in Christ, I kept asking myself why there was a structure for church service anytime I went for service. And if the Holy Spirit can do supernatural things every day and time, why should I plan? I didn’t know that just as God does things His way freely at any time, He also endorses decency and orderliness of service in His house. How true is this?

In 1 Corinthians 14:40, God inspired Paul to write that believers should let everything be done decently and in order. But why? The Corinthian church was a church filled with immature Christians who kept sinning and thought there wasn’t anything wrong with their behaviour. They received the gospel of Jesus Christ through Apostle Paul. But just like any other person, it would take time for their minds to be renewed by the Word of God as they keep receiving God’s Word.

However, they weren’t yet mature. And that means they wanted to bring their disorderly and reckless ways of living into the church, which was totally wrong. Isn’t it interesting how many people are sitting in churches today with filthy mindsets about how things must be done?

Don’t bend God’s principles to suit your way of life.

God doesn’t modify His laws because people propose something contrary to them. No! He’ll never do that. If the Bible says,

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33 NKJV

That means you shouldn’t focus on getting worldly wealth before prioritising God’s work. It doesn’t work like that. Don’t bend God’s principles to suit your way of life. You’ll be your own devil if you do that.

In the house of God, remember that you’re not greater than church leaders. It could be that God instructed them on how to structure every church service. Don’t boycott or demonstrate against it. Instead, submit to it, because it’ll help you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that You give me the grace to live in submission to the structures and systems you’ve set up in ministries I belong to so that my profiting in Your Word of grace will become beneficial in every area of my life. Amen!
