Learn Obedience

“Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” - Hebrews 5:8 NKJV

It is possible to learn obedience as a Christian. And one of the ways to do it is by enduring suffering. Do I advocate for people to suffer in order to learn obedience? No! I mean, when God instructs you to do something, and you disobey, you’ll understand how important it is to obey God when you see the consequences of your disobedience.

Let’s look at the life of Jonah. God sent Him to Nineveh to preach the gospel. He didn’t have a problem recognizing that it was God who spoke to Him. However, he disobeyed by boarding a ship heading towards another town. A storm arose over the ship as they traveled. Eventually, he got thrown into the sea. God delivered him and sent him again. This time, Jonah obeyed because He didn’t want to suffer again. God had to allow Jonah to suffer for a while so that he’ll learn obedience.

Jesus learned obedience by the things He suffered while on earth. Imagine a whole Son of God having numberless angels at His service but treated like a thief in the land of Israel. Jesus didn’t like all those things. But He humbled Himself, made Himself of no reputation, and took the form of a servant (Philippians 2:7).

Where you are now doesn’t match your value in Christ. But to learn to obey God, humble yourself, and serve.

You’re a blessing.
