Lead a Quiet Life

“and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 NIV

Quietness is a good virtue in Christ to emulate. Nevertheless, it’s doesn’t get manifested without any effort from us. In 1 Thessalonians 4:11, we understand that each child of God must make it an ambition to lead a quiet life. Notice that the Bible doesn’t say “live a quiet life”. There’s a difference between those two statements, and sometimes we get confused.

I know some Christians who are so quiet that they don’t want the next-door brethren to recognize their struggle in order to seek help. That is not wisdom. In fact, it’s foolishness because God’s Word inspires us to help one another. We cannot receive assistance from others when our mouths are always shut.

How can a Christian lead a quiet life? 1 Thessalonians 4:11 gives two ways of doing it:

  1. Mind your own business.
  2. Work with your hands.

By practising these things, believers will earn respect from outsiders (unbelievers). Secondly, believers will not solely depend on the world to feed them with their needs because they’ll eat the fruit of their labour.

Christians, can we embrace work as a gift from God to release the inherent untapped potential within us, rather than a burden to do only to seek monthly salaries, lunch breaks, and weekends?

Don’t allow worldly people to use your life to mock God. Work with your hands and earn the bread you eat. Don’t be dependent on people to provide everything you need. For God, your provider is with you. He’s the One that will inspire others to help you.

You’re a blessing.
