Keep Wise Teachings at Heart

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.” — Proverbs 3:1-2 NIV

The heart is the headquarters of all life issues. What you store in it directly affects the words you speak. Jesus said in Luke 6:45 (NIV) that

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

This means that if we’re going to make an impact in this world through words, we have to keep wise teachings at heart. How can we do that? By becoming practitioners of the Word of God, not just listeners (James 1:22).

God is good and has provided everything we need pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). But how well we’ll utilize the provisions and services in His kingdom depends on us, not on Him.

Today, it’s easy to subscribe to sound doctrine. You can join a good church or even follow a great Christian online channel to receive wise teachings from the Bible. But upon all these, if you’ll not become a forgetful hearer, God’s impact on your life will be heavier.

Proverbs 3:2 gives three benefits that you’ll enjoy when you keep wise teachings at heart.

They’ll prolong your life.
They’ll bring you peace.
They’ll bring you prosperity.

So having a prolonged life, experiencing the peace of God, and kingdom prosperity are all products of wisdom. It’s wisdom that will guide you to live excellently (making you have a long life), prevent getting you into trouble, and how to manage finances.

All these are great but not outstanding than the Lord who gives wisdom. Therefore ask the Lord for His wisdom. Be intentional about knowing God.

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you’ll help me keep wise teachings that I receive from You through the Holy Spirit and Your anointed servants; so that I’ll become a benefactor of long life, peace, and prosperity. Amen!
