Keep Away from Dividers

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.” - Romans 16:17 NIV

A divider is a person or a thing that breaks up a whole into many parts. Wherever there is a divider, there is a sense of division. What causes division in places and among people aren’t only poor attitudes of some people but also other factors like disorganised schedules, duty forgetfulness and bad ordering of priorities.

For example, a married man who always places work before his wife freely allows the devil to cause division in the home since there’s little/no quality time spent together. It’s just like putting ministry before your relationship with God.

In the church, this principle of avoiding division hasn’t changed. Each Christian is a part of the body of Christ. And whenever there’s division amongst these body parts, the Head (Christ) isn’t glorified. Paul warned us in scripture that each one of us must keep away from dividers in the church. These include the gossipers, deceivers and false preachers.

No divider has the spirit of encouragement and unity operating in his life. No matter how people behave toward us, never forget that God must be glorified in everything we do for His name’s sake. Watch your conversation with others and advise yourself to spend time with people who’ll add value to your life in Christ, not to cause strife and division in the brethren.

You’re a blessing.
