The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16). When you pray without faith, you’re signing yourself up not to receive any answer from the Lord. It’s faith that makes prayer work, not prayer itself.
In Mark 9, a desperate father brought his son possessed by an impure spirit unto Jesus and his disciples to heal. When he came, he met Jesus’ disciples first to get help, but the disciples couldn’t drive out the demon. Later, Jesus appeared on the scene.
When this man saw Jesus, he started complaining to Jesus about how his son had been suffering because of the workings of that impure spirit in him since infancy. Jesus had a short conversation with this man, and there was one particular statement the man made that surprised Jesus. That is, “…But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” (Mark 9:22 NIV)
Jesus replied to him in the next verse that “Everything is possible for one who believes.” So unto Jesus, it wasn’t about how bad the situation looked, but whether this father believed in Him for his son’s healing or not.
It’s faith that makes prayer work, not prayer itself.

Friend, what makes you think God cannot do what you ask him? Yes, we like saying “all things are possible with God,” and that’s true. But have you thought carefully about it? Do you ask for small things from God or big things?
There’s nothing that Lord cannot do if only you’ll address them in prayer for long. Just believe in God to walk in the realm of endless possibilities. God hears your prayers, but apply faith to them.
