By[25] “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?” — Luke 9:25 NKJV
I hardly had people inspire me to pursue to know Jesus when I was a little child. Many told me to pursue career fields like health, business, engineering or academia. But when I encountered Jesus, got saved by Him and started pursuing to know Him better, mainly through the scriptures, I realised nothing in this world can satisfy. There are many people who’ve had enormous success in their various areas of work, yet without peace and inner fulfilment. Do you want to end up like them?
Read what Jesus said in Luke 9:25 again, this time at a slower pace.
[25] “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?”
What will it profit you if you get whatever you’re looking for in life, yet without you? Is what you’re pursuing in life worth it? That money, house, car, spouse or career you desperately desire, is it really important to make you have a fulfilled life? I tell you, nothing in this world can satisfy what your soul hungers for. Only God can. It’s written in Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NKJV) that,
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”
See the bolded part? God has placed eternity in your heart. That means if your heart is not settled in Him, you’ll live outwardly to enjoy yourself but will still lack inner fulfilment. Don’t be like the rich fool who lost his life for failing to acknowledge God in all his ways, even after getting whatever he wanted in life.
Prayer:
Father, help me to make the right pursuits in life according to Your plan for my life, lest I fail to get inner fulfilment in this busy world. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
