How To Keep Yourself In God’s Love

“But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” — Jude 1:20-21 NIV

God is the totality of love. He loves each of His children uniquely. But sometimes, we don’t discern it.

When I was a child, I remember watching a movie about a child who felt distant from his family, even though they lived in the same house. He was good at drawing. And in one of his drawing books, he carefully drew how gradually he felt distanced from his family. He was going through severe trauma, but the parents didn’t know until a loving school teacher came to his rescue.

Why am I saying this? The child was loved by his parents, but he didn’t know how to keep himself in their love. That is the same thing happening to many people. They know God loves them, but they feel distanced from God because of their perpetual thoughts about life problems.

In Jude 1:20-21, the Bible teaches how to keep yourself in God’s love as His child. There are just two things to do: (1) build up yourself in your most holy faith and (2) pray in the Holy Spirit.

You build up yourself in your most holy faith by studying, reading, and listening to the Word consistently. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). So the more you take in the Word, the more your faith grows.

Again, you pray in the Holy Spirit by praying in tongues. When you pray in tongues, your spirit prays and, you get edified (1 Corinthians 14:4,14).

Fellow Christian, do not allow the challenges of life to make you think God loves you less. No! Do these two things above to keep yourself in God’s love. He’s and will always be with you in fellowship.

You’re a blessing.
