How God Teaches His Children Patience In Getting Things

[17] “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33 NKJV

We all have needs in life, and God knows we need them. That’s why He’s our provision, whether we are conscious of it or not, thank Him for it or not. How many years have you been breathing without thinking about how God supplies fresh air to you despite bad climatic changes? Many. Right? You see, God will never stop taking care of you.

However, there’s a trait in us humans that makes us desire Earthly things for ourselves. And sometimes, such desires can become so strong that people do all kinds of evil things to get them. That’s why some people, for example, steal phones for money.

Nevertheless, to God’s children, there’s a promise for us in scripture (Matthew 6:33) that if we seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, all the things people work hard for will be added to us. But let’s take up the scripture carefully.

If you are born again, it’s written that you’ve entered God’s kingdom (see John 3:5). Therefore, you’re God’s righteousness (see Romans 10:9, 2 Corinthians 5:21).

So for Jesus to say, “Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness,” He doesn’t mean “look for something you don’t have.” Instead, He’s urging you to delve deeper into understanding who you are in Christ and walking in that revelation in righteousness, i.e., right living inspired by God’s grace. And God-ordained possessions will be added to your life without you seeing after them. That is how God teaches His children patience in getting things.

Colossians 3:1-2 (NKJV) says,

[1] “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. [2] Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Get this, child of God. God doesn’t want you to be distracted from seeking things of this world rather than labouring in the Spirit to know who He has made you in Christ. That’s why He’s mindful of your spiritual growth. And as you grow, then the things will be added to you.

I checked the meaning of “added” in Matthew 6:33 from the interlinear Bible. It means “Put together for a purpose.” So this is what Jesus meant in my own words: “When you seek to know Me, you’ll know who I’ve made you well. And as you continue living right before My eyes from your right-believing mindset, things that will help you live effectively on purpose will keep coming your way according to My power without your stress.” Isn’t that wonderful?

But there’s a price to pay. That is, to obey God just as He meant in His Word without leaning on your understanding. Be willing to pay it.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the promise that You’ll take charge of my needs in ways unimaginable if I seek to know You. Help me to do this well by Your grace. Amen!
