Hide Your Generous Deeds

[2] “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” — Matthew 6:2 NIV

What do you do when you give to the needy? Do you hire people to take pictures of your donation presentation and put it on social media? Or do you do it secretly without any intention of getting seen for your good deed?

According to Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:2, it’s not okay to announce your generous works to the public. He used the word “trumpet” because, in those days, that was what they used to make public announcements. Today, it’s the media, especially social media.

As a believer, never forget that we worship a God who looks at the intent of the heart, even before the works we do physically. He knows that when your heart is right with Him, flowing in generosity by grace will be easy for you, whether you get seen or not.

From today, as Jesus taught, hide your generous deeds. Give from a willing heart, knowing that the Lord will reward you. Publicity will fade with time. Even social media application algorithms have been coded in such a way that time fades out the visibility of each post made online.

Why not try the method of Elohim, who’s the ancient of days? His methods never fail. If He said, through His Son Jesus, that don’t announce your generosity to the public, obey Him. Avoid following trends of this current world to do ministry or charitable deeds. Go by God’s ways, and build everything according to the pattern God reveals to you as you commune with Him in prayer.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for seeing my generosity. Today, I pray, cleanse my mindset of supporting people. Let my thoughts be so naïve to negativity, such that others will benefit from Your anointing upon my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
