Grace Is Able to Give You an Inheritance Among God’s Children

“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” — Acts 20:32 KJV

I’ve seen people, especially the married, work so hard to accumulate material possessions to serve as an inheritance to the next generation. But did God bring us into this world merely to make a living or possessions for children? Far be from it, even though it’s significant.

Even Jesus, the builder of the whole universe, never built one house. Yet today, His name is still mentioned everywhere the gospel gets preached. Jesus, the person of grace, knew what it meant to get an inheritance in His own creation without following the regular ways of men’s lives.

Paul caught this revelation when bidding farewell to the elders in the early Ephesian church. He commended them to God and the Word of His grace. The man of God knew that he wouldn’t be physically around to pastor the church. So, in order to leave them with something, he pulled out a revelation he had lived with for long and probably built his life to such a high level of kingdom impact – the work of grace.

Grace can build you up (internally and externally) in Christ. That means, both your inner man (spirit and soul) and physical life can be well fortified by grace alone. How powerful! Secondly, grace is able to give you an inheritance among God’s children.

In today’s devotion, I want us to focus on the second work of grace.

The inheritance that grace has the capacity to give you isn’t merely houses, family or children. If it were only that, what would have been the difference between unbelievers and the children of God? Aren’t even some unbelievers richer and have larger families than Christians?

Grace can give you a transgenerational inheritance in Christ among the saints. In other words, a believer’s impact he will make if he lives by God’s grace will be so evident that multiple generations in Christ will benefit from him.

For example, imagine the millions of people who’ve read books from Dr Myles Munroe – a firebrand minister who died in 2014. So many, including myself. He trusted God’s grace to write. And even though he’s gone, God is still using his materials to bless lives. That is just an example of one of the many things grace can do in a single believer’s life. Imagine every Christian living by sole dictates of grace! Christ would have been known everywhere by now faster than before. Right?

If you want a stress-free life that commands a multi-generational impact, I recommend grace to you today – a life based on the guidance of Jesus Christ. Come to Jesus, the lover of your soul.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, I choose to depend on grace for my life’s direction. May I cease living based on selfish ambitions and goals. You, I live for. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
