God’s Limits Are For Your Protection

“And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” — Genesis 2:16 - 17 NIV

After God made the world and placed Adam in Eden to dress and keep it (Genesis 2:15), He gave man the right to eat from any tree in the garden except one, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

So many questions have been raised as to why God restricted man from eating this tree. And if He knew Adam and Eve would eat it, why did He place it there? Well, here are the answers.

In Revelation 13:8, the Bible tells us that the Lamb of God (Jesus Christ) was slain before the foundation of the world. So long before Adam and Eve fell, He had already purposed that they’ll fall. So Jesus’ atonement for sin was long done before the first man was created.

God didn’t put that tree in the land to tempt Adam and Eve with evil. Why? Because He doesn’t do that (James 1:13). He placed it there to limit Adam and Eve’s functionality to know just good and no evil. But the devil knew this, so he deceived Eve to take the fruit.

If you’re a parent reading this or someone who counsels children one way or the other, you can attest to the fact that there are some limits you place in feeding the children with knowledge. Something like sex education; every parent knows that it’s not appropriate to teach it to children below ten years.

If Adam hadn’t disobeyed God and Eve hadn’t taken the fruit, there would have been no sin in this world. They exceeded God’s limit, and till today, several people are wallowing in sin without even knowing why.

God’s limits are for your protection, not restriction. If He tells you that “Stay here and do My work,” He knows what He’s saying. He is omnipresent, flawless and visionary.

Either you obey Him without grumbling, or you disobey Him and face the consequences. Remember that God doesn’t amend His laws because of the changing attitude of man. He’s God, and His principles stand. Obey Him today even if everyone around you mocks at you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, give me the strength to stick to following You and obeying Your instructions. Teach me Your principles, and build in me the spiritual capacity to follow them. Amen!
