God Knows What You Think

“[19] Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. [20] But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 1:19 - 20 NIV

Are you conscious of the truth that God knows what you think? Humans can’t see thoughts, but God sees them. No wonder Jesus could read the minds of people who tried to box Him with confusing questions merely to get something against Him (see Matthew 12:25, Luke 5:22-23, John 2:24).

While studying about Advent, I realised a clearer picture of this truth that God knows what we think. Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, was a very noble man. He knew the law and was faithful to it. This man was aware that it was not good to marry a woman who had committed fornication. So he decided to divorce Mary quietly. In other words, he wanted to break the betrothal commitment secretly. Because if he had done it publicly, Mary would have gotten stoned to death upon people seeing she was pregnant without being legally married. Nevertheless, God stepped in.

In Matthew 1:20 NIV, the Bible says,

“But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”

Notice something. God didn’t wait for Joseph to act on his mental decision. He stepped in by giving him revelation while he slept. That means God knew his thoughts, even when no human knew them.

To the precious ladies of God reading this, I want to inform you that God has ways of protecting your godly relationships from failing. It doesn’t mean you should mess up and keep your men thinking.

Here’s a tip: most men think when they’re quiet. So as a lady, if you misbehave towards your godly partner or spouse, you’ll give him mental torture, which is not good. Don’t be a prayer topic to him. Give him peace, and you’ll see God’s blessing upon your union.

Nevertheless, I present another great mystery for you to practice. Never cease praying for your partner or spouse. Always tell God to stabilise each other’s minds. Because when the mind is functioning well, there’ll be peace in that relationship. No scripture says Mary went to pray for Joseph not to divorce her after telling him she was pregnant with Jesus by the Holy Spirit. But I believe she did it.

This Christmas, aside from all the euphoria of the season and food, commit your human relationships to the Lord. Pray earnestly about your marriage. Because of a truth, human relationships affect how we live and do things on Earth.

The Lord be with you. You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus, I commit all my human relationships to your care. Shape the thoughts of the people who love me. Let their minds be filled with what’s only good. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
