God Does Not Change

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” — James 1:17 NIV

I’ve met some people who used to blame God for every bad thing that happens in their lives. However, upon conversation and study of the Word, most of these people later discover that what happened to them isn’t from God but usually ignorance or little knowledge of something in the Bible.

When the Apostle James was writing his epistle to the believers scattered around the world, he cited that nobody should attribute temptation to God because God doesn’t tempt anyone with evil (James 1:13).

Then in verse 16, he warns us that we shouldn’t be deceived. For every good and perfect gift comes from God, who is the Father of lights. And He doesn’t change like shifting shadows.

Second after second, minute after minute, hour after hour, the sun keeps changing its position towards people in the sky. And because of that, the position of our shadows when walking in the sun keeps changing.

God isn’t like a shifting shadow. The light He carries is unapproachable (1 Timothy 6:16). It’s so bright that there’s no shadow of turning.

God is not a man. He is constant, yesterday, today and forever. When He tells you that He’s with you, He’ll never change His mind about that statement, no matter what you do or where you go. I’d urge you to trust Him. Follow Him and obey His instructions. For they have lasting advantages you may be unaware of.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Oh God, thank You for being faithful to Your Word about my life. In the name of Jesus, help me never to waver in my belief about what You’ve told me to do. Lead and guide me in Your way everlasting. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
