By[4] “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,” – Ephesians 1:4 (NKJV)
Assuming you have a bunch of bananas and you want to eat them. What do you do? You pick one and eat one at a time. Right? Then, you continue with the others until you finish eating all of them. But what if you’ve chosen which one to start eating when you see the food? The bananas wouldn’t have questioned you on your choice.
Now, the God of the whole universe, before laying the foundation of the world, decided to choose you. You have nothing to say about that. It’s His choice. However, you agree with me that whenever there’s a choice to make, then there are multiple options to consider and also a reason for your choice.
God didn’t choose you just for no reason. No! Ephesians 1:4 says He chose you to be holy and without blame before Him in love. However, there’s a problem – that is, sin. Isaiah 59:2 (NKJV) says,
[2] But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.
So, even though God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, being born in sin (in the likeness of sinful flesh due to Adam’s fall) has separated us from God. And He knows we cannot get reconciled to Him without His intervention. So one of the reasons why Jesus was sent was to seek and save that which was lost, including you and me (see Luke 19:10).
Today, if you’re a believer in Christ, you’ve honoured God’s call as His choice. By His Spirit of grace, you can live a holy life without blame before Him. And even though evil abounds in this world, your path in Christ will be filled with the Lord’s goodness as you walk in His ways.

Father, thank You for choosing me to be holy and blameless in your sight, even before You made the world. As I turn back to You, help me to fill my mind with Your pure Word as I seek to know You better each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
