Give Yourself Wholly to God

[21] “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” — James 1:21 NKJV

What do you do when you get employed? You show up at the workplace each day you’re supposed to go to work. Right? Now, why do you do that? Because the work has created a consciousness in your mind that you ought to be there. After all, you must give yourself to the work in order to receive the fruit of your labour each month.

But when God saved you, He didn’t just deliver you to work for Him but also to have a loving relationship with Him. So just as a husband and a wife give their bodies to each other, you’re married to Jesus because you’re part of His bride – the Church. So you’re obligated, by the empowerment of the Spirit, to give yourself wholly to God. That’s why it’s devastating to see a child of God live like a worldly person, wallowing in sin as if he doesn’t know God. Such people have little understanding of who God made them when they got saved. And truthfully speaking, they need help.

Taking on James 1:21, you, as a child of God, have the power to lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness. Yes, you heard that. God has given you “exousía” to live unto Him devoid of any evil and wickedness. And on top of that, you are also empowered to receive God’s Word that is being implanted into you with all meekness.

Here’s something noteworthy. God doesn’t want you to have your inner man void of anything. So as you, by divine enablement, get rid of all moral filth, He wants you also to make room for His Word to permeate your heart.

Do you just go to church on Sunday and forget about the message preached, or with intentionality, soak the sermons in your privacy? As James 4:8 says, God will draw near to you when you take the first step to pursue a deeper intimacy with Him. Press on to know Jesus every day.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Lord, I receive grace to give myself wholly to you. Purge my life with all moral filthiness that makes me live contrary to Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
