Give Divine Knowledge To The Poor

[18] “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;” — Luke 4:18 NKJV

On reading the manifesto of Jesus, I was surprised the first thing He said was that He had been anointed to preach the gospel to the poor and not to give such people money. Everybody knows poor people need funds more than any other thing. But Jesus’ insight is greater.

First of all, note that He wasn’t only addressing physically poor people but also the spiritually poor – those who didn’t have God in them. So with these two groups of people in mind, He gives one solution to their problems. That is, for them to hear the Word of God.

Do you know that many people are physically poor not because they don’t have money but because they lack knowledge of managing finances? Secondly, most people are also spiritually poor because they don’t invest in studying the Word of God in order to know Him intimately.

So what Jesus said is the solution for both kinds of people. If, as a preacher, I teach the Word of God to the people God has given me to shepherd, their minds will be gradually transformed. They’ll know God better each day and, from that knowledge, handle finances according to the principles of the Word.

Don’t be afraid to do what Jesus did. Keep giving divine knowledge to the poor through preaching the Word. Support them by your own means, but ensure their understanding of kingdom finances gets enriched as they listen to God’s Word from you. They might be slow in spiritual growth, but trust in God for progress. It is well with you.

Father, thank You for the revelation that to give divine knowledge to the poor is greater than giving them money according to what is written in Luke 4:18. I obtain grace to disciple each person You entrust in my spiritual care. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
