Give As You Purpose In Your Heart

“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” — II Corinthians 9:7 NKJV

One thing I’ve observed that many believers fail to do is to plan what to give in the house of God. So many don’t give as they purpose in their heart, so they give out of necessity and sometimes forcefully.

God is interested in your life. Just as He doesn’t want you to mess up in all areas of your life, He doesn’t want you to live without any spiritual understanding of handling finances. So He inspired Paul to write on how to give unto Him, especially in the ministry.

In 2 Corinthians 9:7, it’s written that as a child of God, giving is an integral part of your life in Christ. But in order to do it well, you must give as you purpose in your heart, not grudgingly or out of necessity.

Translated word “purpose” in 2 Corinthians 9:7 means “to choose for oneself before another thing.” That has to do with preference. So here’s the point. When giving in the house of God, don’t follow what the crowds do.

Decide what to give in your heart to the Lord, and with cheerfulness, do so. That will eliminate any anxiety of giving what you’ve not budgeted for just because there’s a need to fulfil or target to reach by church leaders.

Friend, there are needs everywhere. So be mindful of obeying God’s Word concerning giving because our Jesus knows how to meet every lack with what He places in people’s hands and hearts to offer in the ministry.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, I pray that I conscientise my heart to decide what to give purposefully in Your house. Make me an epitome of financial stewardship in Christ for the purposes of Your kingdom and admonition many believers. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
