Friend of Jesus

“You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” - John 15:14‭-‬15 NIV

Everybody has friends. No man is an island. But the best friend you can ever have isn’t your relationship or marriage partner (that person is the second in priority). It is Jesus. Jesus isn’t only our Lord and Savior. He has a dimension of personality called friendship.

Friendship can’t grow without communication and influence.

Some people think God wants them to be born again so that Jesus will rule over their lives. That’s true, but Jesus also wants to be your friend. Friends are true to themselves. They aren’t shy of correcting one another, cheering one another up, and even helping one another. Jesus wants people to be friends with Him to help Him as He also helps them. The question is this, “how can I become a friend of Jesus?”

There are only two things to do to become a friend of Jesus, not just a Christian.

  1. Do what He commands. That is, love Him and obey His teaching (John 14:15, John 14:23).
  2. Listen to Him.

Jesus taught His disciples, and they learnt from him. The more you learn from Jesus, the more you’ll know Him. After all, friendship can’t grow without communication and influence. Do you want to be a friend of Jesus? Don’t listen to what religion says. Just spend time with Jesus and obey Him. It’s not automatic to have a good relationship with Him. You have to spend quality time alone with Jesus.

Remember Jesus had crowds follow Him every day. But amongst all of them, He called only His disciples friends. I think it’s time to seed out your real friends in Christ who’ll help you know God more.

You’re a blessing.
