“Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” — Habakkuk 2:2-3 NIV

We live in a world where so much chaos prevails. Unfortunate circumstances such as much money in the wrong hands and the greedy filling top positions in organisations and government agencies exist, and this has led to the oppression of lives, especially some Christians. Sometimes, I ask myself, “When will all these change?”

God isn’t silent in the affairs of His people. However, He doesn’t usually bring solutions in man’s time, but in His time. The book of Habakkuk highlights this mystery very well.

In the days of Habakkuk, God’s people were suffering in the hands of the Babylonians. It was so bad that evil was on the rise, but it seemed God was silent. So the prophet prayed and poured out two complaints unto the Lord. God gave answers to each of them on different occasions.

For the first one, He said in Habakkuk 1:5 that,

Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

Habakkuk 1:5 NIV

Now that verse really surprised me. It showed that even though God had seen evil prevailing, His plan for redemption is unknown to men but so good that even if He revealed it to those who fear Him (Psalm 25:14), Habakkuk wouldn’t believe it.

Then God comes back to reply to the second complaint in Habakkuk 2:2. This time, He urged the prophet to foresee godly change coming. Let’s look at how God inspired the prophet to do this, which will benefit us too.

The Lord said that for Habakkuk to foresee godly change, he must write down the vision (the revelation that He’ll show him) and make it plain on tablets (rocks); so that as he sees it, he’ll run with it. Then God adds that though this vision lingers, the prophet should wait for it through living by faith as the just of God (Habakkuk 2:4).

Now that applies to us. In our generation, all the evils happening won’t last forever because creation awaits the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19). However, this change won’t happen as early as we (children of God) want it. God is the leader in this change. Nevertheless, He wants us to see as He sees and live by faith until all His promises in our lives get fulfilled one by one in His time.

Has God been showing you glimpses of what your future will look like, whether it’s you beginning a new ministry, home, or business? That’s vision. You should protect these titbits of divine revelation by writing them down in place(s) you’ll constantly see and pray with (in our age, you can use your devices to help you or a nicely made statement of purpose in a table calendar to place in your office). I’m telling you that this will give you direction in how you’ll live, starting from now.

Visionary people make uncommon decisions because they don’t live concerned with just the “now” but also the “future.” Take your life seriously. Life is about purpose, and success in Christ isn’t for people who live by wishes, luck and chances. Live by faith!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Oh Lord, help me treasure visionary revelations in my heart so that as I live by faith, I’ll foresee godly change to happen both in my life and my nation. Amen!
