Every Good and Perfect Gift Is from Above

“[17] Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” — James 1:17 NIV

Have you ever thought of attributing something in your possession, yet not according to your liking, to God’s provision? Maybe it’s a laptop for college your parents bought for you, but not according to your specs. Or is it a phone or even a male child instead of a female (as a parent)? Don’t worry.

According to James 1:17, every good and perfect gift is from above. But how God, who’s above (see John 8:23), defines what’s good and perfect may not be in sync with how you discern it.

For example, God can provide for your parents to support you, but not as much as how you desire it. That doesn’t mean everything they got for you wasn’t the Lord’s provision, whether you are satisfied or dissatisfied.

The only gift that doesn’t have any trace of God’s work of provision is every evil thing. If you get money through dishonest means such as bribery, it’s not from God. So fear Him enough to desist from bringing it as an offering in church.

God is good. And He will never change. He’s the Father of heavenly lights. And as such, no darkness can ever be traced to Him. Therefore, learn to receive His gracious provision for your life with a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your ever-constant provision in my life. Let my heart be filled with joy as I receive help from people You’ve inspired to be a blessing to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
