Do You Forget Who You Are?

[22] “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. [23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; [24] for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” — James 1:22-24 NKJV

I don’t know when mirror technology was invented, but I do know that it wasn’t as popular during the early church days as it is today. In those days, people hardly had access to mirrors. So, they rarely took notice of how they looked like physically. But nowadays, there are smartphones all around. And with many pictures of ourselves taken daily, we get a picture of our physical looks more frequently. Right? But do you know camera technology in today’s smartphones is just a replication of what God’s Word said?

James 1:22-24 says it all. Anybody who hears the Word of God but doesn’t walk in obedience to the revelations he has received from it deceives himself. He’s likened to a man who rarely uses a mirror and so forgets his physical looks immediately after leaving the mirror. What a tragedy! That means your true identity is found in the Word of God. So, if you leave it aside and live by your own understanding, you’re not living like Jesus. And because of that, you’re not going to reach the fullness of your destiny suppose you continue living like that the rest of your life.

Do you forget who you are by setting aside the guidance of God’s Word in your life? What fills your thoughts – earthly or kingdom matters? If it’s earthly things, then there’s a problem. Because when you’re not living your real you, you cause harm to your own life, whether you know it or not.

Child of God, this life is too spiritual to live with a natural mindset. Don’t set aside God’s grace to live like a commoner in the natural life. Else, you’ll not enjoy it. I pray, that the Lord Jesus, will be your guide and help every day of your life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Oh God, permit me not to set aside Your grace in every walk of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
