Do What Is Right In The Eyes of Everyone

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” — Romans 12:17 NIV

Did you know that the Bible speaks of doing what is right in the eyes of everyone around you? Even though we were created in Christ unto good works (Ephesians 2:10) and doing good by faith is to please the Father, Jesus knows that we are living epistles in this world. He knows some people will only get converted by the exemplary attitude of Christians around them. That’s why with whatever we do, we must factor in how it affects others.

Doing what’s good is different from doing the right thing. Good things are not bad and not sinful, but right things are done in faith and are also connected to one’s divine purpose. What’s right is usually not understood by carnal people. For example, it’s right to pray in tongues, but a carnal Christian will see it as wrong because there’s no spiritual eye to discern it. And again, giving alms to the needy is good, but suppose God tells you at specific instances to use that money for other purposes, then obeying God’s instructions at that time, as compared to general almsgiving, becomes the right thing.

We’re not told to do what’s good before everyone, but what’s right. Define what’s right to do according to the scriptures with deep understanding, not your emotions or culture. The Lord is good. He’ll not watch you fall into the ditch for doing the right thing, even with much opposition. Shalom, peace and life to you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that You’ll sharpen my spiritual discernment that distinguishes what’s right from what’s good. Help me choose to do what’s right to do over what’s wrong to compromise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
