Do Everything Without Complaining

“Do everything without complaining and arguing,” — Philippians 2:14 NLT

The primary reason why the Israelites who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses didn’t enter the promised land, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, was because they always complained and murmured about everything God instructed them to do, whether directly or through Moses or Aaron. They knew the acts of God but not His ways (Psalm 103:7).

In our generation, it’s the same in many places. So many people complain when asked to do something at home, workplace, church or other places they find themselves. And this is very common among children. Why? Because of limited understanding.

A subordinate at the workplace is likely to complain or murmur silently in his mind when he’s told to do something he doesn’t like. Meanwhile, he doesn’t know that his simple obedience will contribute to the fulfilment of the vision of the organisation. Sadly, that’s how some of us Christians treat God.

When you don’t understand why God tells you to do something, it’s not the time to complain to Him. You only have to do it as you trust Him. See, God isn’t only your heavenly Father. He’s also your leader. That means there are things He knows that you don’t know, and just because you don’t know something doesn’t give you the audacity to disobey Him.

Instead of complaining and murmuring about something you are instructed to do, seek to understand the proper reason(s) behind it. Knowing the reason for doing something changes your perspective and approach toward it positively. So go ahead and ask God questions. Tell Him to give you foresight and the spirit of understanding so that submitting to Him will be birthed out of divine knowledge through fellowship and not of necessity.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Lord, I pray that you’ll give me the spirit of understanding so that I’ll comprehend the reason(s) behind everything you guide me to do. I renounce the spirit of rebellion that seeks to disobey your commands by the power of the Holy Spirit in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
