Discharge All The Duties of Your Ministry

“But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” — 2 Timothy 4:5 NIV

When I started in ministry, I thought it’d be little work because I presumed pastors were people who prepare sermons and preach on church service days. I was greatly mistaken. Four years on, I’ve not seen a day I’m getting any less busy.

However, Paul understood this long before I was born. He knew ministry comes with duties (1 Corinthians 15:10), most of which the public won’t see, yet they ought to be done to produce what they see.

For example, no congregant sees when a pastor is preparing a sermon, sweating in Bible study and making references. Yet, these same people gather on Sundays and weekday services to receive the Word of God. So I learned that ministry isn’t for lazy people.

Never think your pastor is a lazy person. Although some pastors are “lazy,” not all are so. So pray for them. But as a minister of the gospel, don’t entertain procrastination in your workflow any day of your life. Discharge the duties of your ministry, whether people applaud you for what you do or not.

Remember that it’s God who called you, not yourself or people. Hence, be mindful of doing everything to please your First love – Jesus, whether things are easy or tough. He’ll never forget your labour of love. He’ll reward you handsomely. Believe in Him and follow Him closely.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, give me the grace to discharge all the duties of my ministry. Help me to remain conscious that I live because of You; so that everything of mine will gradually become submitted to Your purpose. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
